Question: #3: How do I protect myself from identity fraud?
Recently, an old roommate called to ask for my address, so that he could send me my wallet that he found while going through his things from our old apartment. I'm concerned because I haven't received anything in the mail yet, and ID fraud has happened to both my parents, and even my sister (people have opened bank accounts under their names). Are there any measures I can take now to ensure my protection?

Question: #10: This girl I can't stand was arrested for "identity fraud", what is that?
She also was arrested for driving with a suspended license. She was supposed to turn herself in 2 weeks ago for 6 months in jail but I never knew what for. She didn't show up so do you think that the identity fraud was the charge she was supposed to go to jail for? There wouldn't be a bond if she didn't show up as supposed to, right?

Question: #12: Why would identity fraud be my problem and not my bank's ?
Suppose someone manages by digital or other means to trick my bank into paying out money which it incorrectly thinks that I have authorised. Isn't this the bank's problem in the end ? Surely the bank can not expect me to pay for breaches of its own security.

Question: #16: How do I remove the effects of identity fraud from my credit? How long will it take to clear up?
Before I left the country for work, I stored a lot of my personal papers at my grandma's house, including bank and tax records with my SSN and DOB. One of her former home health care workers opened several credit accounts in my grandmother's name, and on almost all of them she used my SSN to name me an "authorized user" which meant that she had a card to play with and so did her sister. They've charged up about $78,000 work of stuff that we know about ranging from platinum cards from Chase to Gateway computers, Cingular Wireless accounts, Home Depot and Nordstrom charge accounts. The only way my grandma and dad found out about this is that several collection and credit companies were harassing her about accounts she's never heard of. She's 84 and senile. I had no idea until I got back that I am also being pursued for these debts. The nurse aide went so far as to put in a change of address for me through the post office so I never EVER saw a statement or bill. What should I do???My credit is in shambles now, but it was PRISTINE before all of this. My dad is working on clearing my grandmother in all of this with the credit bureaus, using the police report(s), but what should I do about my own? Do I need to send letters to the three reporting agencies with copies of the reports explaining the fraud? HELP!All of my plans have been totally put on ice because of this. I had planned on buying a house and now I'm scared my employer will run a credit report and be all "Heeeey, she can't work for us anymore! Look at that FICO! Ew!"

Question: #22: Can someone sue you for identity theft/fraud because you filled out a job application?
Here are the details: My husbands kids agreed that they would do a summer job they had done two years ago if they couldn't find another one before summer. I filled out the applications online for the kids. There were no signature spaces on the form, no social security numbers on the form. Their mother called tonight and said she had filed 6 counts of felony fraud and identity theft against me because I put her name on the job application and filled them out for the kids. The only line with her name on it was the one asking the name of legal guardian and I put my husband's name and her name in the same space - it was not a signature space. Can she really have these charges filed or is she just being malacious? Don't fraud charges need to be brought against me through the Prosecutor's office? I am calling an attorney tomorrow but I thought I would see if I could get some feedback tonight - maybe direction to legal code that I could read up on this.Thank you!The kids are 16 and 17. They talked with their dad and agreed that if they couldn't find a different summer job, they would do the corps job again. To get the session they want you have to file early. My husband and I have been together for over 11 years. So, it is not a new relationship.
