Do credit repair companies work? I want to build or buy a house for my family .This is no joke , I have seven kids . So it's very important that I get a good P.M.I. and a good interest rate or I'll never be able to afford it. I make about 60k a year , but one of kids had to have 5 brain surgeries right after she was born and this ruined my wife and my credit . Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am trying to repair my credit by sending debt settlement letters to the collections agencies listed on my credit report, but they are not being cooperative. Most are saying they CANNOT settle the debt nor are they willing to delete the listing from my credit report after the debt had been paid. I don't trust any of these non profit credit counselors, but I need some guidance. I am begining to lose hope that this is even worth the trouble. Any advise?

I paid $300 to an attorney that works with a real estate firm specializing in credit repair, by disputing and of such nature. He hasn't done anything, he is now unable to be reached? Took my money and left but still around. Can I bring legal action to him? (His company states that he's doing it on his own). What is it that credit repair agecies do to get things removed that i cant do myself. I have appt. with a repair agent but am on the ropes on wether i want to use the service or not. I mean he says it will take 45days to get things removed which sounds like he is just writing dispute letters.

A good credit report is very important for living a comfortable life of financial freedom but it's difficult to recover fom a bad credit report once you've made a few mistakes. Credit repair companies can be helpful, especially if you allow some time for your file to be worked on before you need it completely done.

I ruined my credit in college and as a result I have about $10,000 in debt. Most of the accounts are in collections, charge offs, or past due. The only thing positive on the report are my student loans and my car loan. I have heard of disputing the reports, but I also want to find a credit repair firm that will allow me to make payment arrangements. I want to improve my credit rating so that I can purchase a home in a few years, get approved for more credit cards and also get a new car.
