Question: #9: Why do banks promote online bill pay so much?
Do banks make money somehow by having people pay their bills online? If anything I would think that banks have to pay money to mail the payments that don't post electronically and they would also lose revenue from checks. I've seen banks give free checking accounts and even prize drawings for the people who use bill pay. Whats the motivation???

Question: #19: How exacly does online bill pay work?
I use my bank's web site to pay bills using its bill pay service. I would like to know exactly how banks pay bills. I have read banks pay bills electronically if possible (using ACH I assume), or they mail a check if the payee does not accept electronic payments. To pay a credit card bill for example, I supply the bank with the following information:■ credit card company's name, address, and telephone number■ my credit card number■ amount to pay and whenThis is all the information I give the bank. I'm fairly confident the bank is paying my bills electronically and not by mail, because my credit card company usually gets the payment within a day of the bank's paying it.If I am correct by assuming they use ACH, wouldn't my bank need the payee's routing number and account number? If this is so, how does my bank get this information? Do banks have databases linking this information to company names and addresses? Creating and maintaining such a database seems difficult.I meant for the database I mentioned to be preexisting and to link remittance addresses to account numbers for every company (or at least attempt to). This does not seem like a trivial task.A database such as the one Trumania mentioned is more trivial. However, this requires a bank employee to do research every time a bank customer decides to pay a new payee. This may very well be the case. I would just be surprised banks would go to that much trouble, especially if they don't charge an extra fee for the service (my bank doesn't). It would seem more logical for them to require the bank customer to acquire this information and give it to them. That way bill payments could be handled without bank employee intervention.

Question: #26: Automating Bill pay to to make nonrecurring payments?
Is there anyway to pay lots of people through something like Bill pay provided by the banks, and do it in an automated way such as uploading a file which contains all the payee information and payment amount instead of typing them out manually each time. This needs to be done at least each month and needs be done to potentially to thousands of people, that's why I need to avoid doing it manually. Actually I'm looking for something that's very similar to paypal's mass pay. But I can't use mass pay because majority of these people do not have e-mail or paypal accounts.

Question: #30: What can a company or hospital do to you if you refuse to pay your bill?
For example - I took my husband to an ER - where they did nothing for him. He had a rash all over his body, and the doctor we took him to said he couldn't help him and he needed to be seen IMMEDIATELY. So we took him to the ER, but didn't have insurance. I imagined we would be in debt for years, as they would have to do tests and all that - but it was worth it. Anyway, seriously the dr. LOOKED at him and wrote a prescription. That was it. No tests. No bandages. Nothing. Just looked - said it was a dermatitis gone horribly wrong and wrote him a prescription for cortizone and allergy meds and sent us on our way. We paid 200 dollars, which was expensive for a visit - and left. Now we have a bill for the DR for 700 and the ER for another 350. I have refused to pay. My credit sucks... so I am not worried about that. But what can any company really do to enforce that bills are paid?I don't plan on working for a large company or buying a house. We live pretty meagerly and are moving into an RV. LOL I read tarot for a job and basically we are hippies, lol.We have no credit cards and don't have any plans on buying a car. We filed bk 3 years ago - and since then we don't have anything bad on it. We made some mistakes before - but we generally pay our bills on time. Maybe a late here or there now. Also, I have written letters to each of them to dispute the claim.
