Question : Where is a company that offeres life insurance to felons?
My husband commited a felony nine years ago when he was nineteen years old and has not been in trouble since. He is now a foreman, owns his own home and is just a regualr citizen, but he has been denied life insurance through 3 companies. Any suggestions? His medical exam and history is perfect, he even qualified for prefered rates, but it all comes down to the background check.

All Answers: Answer #1 Have you attempted to contact an independentagent? They represent numerous insurancecompanies (sometimes over 20) and should be ableto tell you whether the previous felony convictionwould automatically disqualify him from coverageor if they represent at least one company thatwould accept him as a risk. That would be my onlysuggestion, it's the fastest way to check withnumerous companies. - answered by duffmanasu
Answer #2 Assuming he's not still on probation or parole, there are some companies that may offer coverageand others that do not. It sounds like you onlyfound the ones that do not. This is an underwritingissue that not all companies will treat the same. I recommend talking with at least 3 independentinsurance brokers to find the deal you like thebest. - answered by aaron p
Answer #3 Did not even know Felonies had anything to do withlife insurance? There is an health history checkthat may be stopping you, but the company wouldstill contact you as to what it is. Most medicalissues can still be insured just rated. You canget your own Medical Report Free to see what is onit. Aids is sometimes an issue but some companieswill still insure aids persons. I know that theapplications I take for life insurance do not evevask about criminal records. - answered by Asset Manangement
Answer #4 I don't have much to add except that I agree withthe independent agent comment. A really goodindependent agent will know the underwritingguidelines of multiple companies and know whichcompanies will write coverage to someone who had afelony 9 years ago. You shouldn't have have totrial and error by filling out applications. - answered by Michael M
