Question : How long does a lien stay on your credit report after being paid?
I had a lien on my credit report, and I paid it about three months ago. It was still on my report, so I reported it to the credit beaura. They investigated it and said it will be reported as satsified/released. However I thought it would be taken off my report. I checked my report a week after the investigation and in the status category, there isn't anything written in it. Does it take a while for them to update the credit report? When will the lien be taken off?

All Answers: Answer #1 Most public record items stay on your file for 10years, paid or not.You may want to follow up tomake sure who ever you paid files the properpaperwork with the court to show the liensatisfied. That's pretty much the only way tochange the status on your report. - answered by bdancer222
Answer #2 If it was put thier by mistake it will be removedwith a lette and proof. But if it was your lien itwill remain on your report for 7 to 10 years.Stupid I know, but at least it shows paid and willnot effect your score anymore and underwriterswill not judge you for it. - answered by pilotwannabe
Answer #3 It will stay on your report for at least 10 years.I highly recommend working with a credit repaircompany to have it removed. I personally never hada lien on my credit report, but I had some prettybad things and had it removed. I have worked withtwo credit repair companies. First with LexingtonLaw, and let me tell you, they were terrible. Theycharge you a monthly fee, so they take their sweettime. I finally got fed up and canceled.A friendreferred me to another company, Unified CreditServices - http://www.unifiedcreditservices.com -and they were great. Their work is legit and theyget it done quickly. I wouldn't recommend anyother company. - answered by Joe F
