Question : Can a restaurant take a waiter's tips to pay for other customers who walked out on their bill?
Waiter served customers with good service, the "idiots" walk out on their bill without paying. The restaurant takes the waiter's earned tips from the night to cover the cost of the "idiot's" bill. What if a car dealership did this to a car salesman? $30,000 dock of his pay?

If the table is your responsibility then yes, it'sa business after all. BUT not all restaurants workthis way. It depends on the manager, but you willget into trouble.Best thing is... don't let yourtable walk out without paying!

Answer #3
If you are also the cashier, as in server banking, you are responsible for collecting payment. If youfail to do so, management can require you to paythe bill. Some restaurants will forgive you if it'sobviously a premeditated dine and dash, but ifit's negligence on your part (like you didn'tbother going back to the table to collect), thenyou're responsible.Sucks, I know. Don't be afraidto be up front (but polite) with customers aboutcollecting on a tab. Most people won't beinsulted. Some people really do just forget.
