Question : How do you start out in the life insurance industry in NY?
I recently took the exam and am currently a licensed life, accident and health agent/broker in NY state. I plan to eventually have my own life insurance business however I just don't know where to begin..... I graduated college a few years back and worked a job (unrelated to the insurance industry) I strive to make more than an average salary, I am very hardworking. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you considered obtaining a CLU?If I wouldexpand into NY soon, I would certainly want tospeak with you! A person like you is considered'quality'.I wish you weren't looking to run yourown office until July. Oh, well. Here is onethought: Find a niche and learn that niche. Forexample, www.EndlessLegacy.US is my website. Lookover the things that interest you. Pick one ortwo. Read a little about those that interest you. If you like a small, specific part of the field, why not specialize in that?

CONGRATS!!!! This is truly a fantastic career, and basically any general agent would be willingto take you on and train you. Your best bet is togo with a high quality company that does wholelife. I would suggest in this order Guardian, MassMutual, Northwest Mutual, and NY Life. When Istarted just like you.... I chose Guardian as theyhad the best offering and there product isincredible. Which really helps you to be able tosell it. If you want any further advice or ideasfeel free to IM or email me and I can give youfurther and more specific info. All that beingsaid.... take your time.... make a good choice andbe prepared to work hard at it....... It will takethe first 5 years or so of trying to build abusiness and then you will spend the rest of yourcareer finishing what you started! Good Luck andDONT give up!
