Question : Has anyone tried using these online credit repair services?
There is a law firm that keeps popping up on websites that says they can improve your credit score. Has anyone actuallly tried this service. If so what was your experience with them? Am I better off trying to repair my credit myself.

All Answers: Answer #1 Legit credit repair associates cost a lot of moneyand that is the only down fall about gettingsomeone to help take of your negative reports andreduce your interests to make a settlement amount. The other credit repair companies are scams andonce you pay the sign up fee, they end up turningyour debt and bank account even deeper into thehole. I found an legit company that does do whatthey say but charges $699. But they do take outover $4,000 off on interests and do take offnegative charge-offs from your credit report andgive you an opportunity to get a credit card andshow you how to boost your credit score to 490 to620 in 5 months... Answer #2 Depends on what you're trying to repair? Alegitimate company/service can negotiate with yourcreditors so you potentially only have to pay aportion of the balance or pay lower rates or workout some kind of payment plan. This is a greatoption if you're already severly delinquent anddon't think you can get back on track. In otherwords you're credit has already been damaged. Ifyou're just in over your head but you're stillcurrent keep in mind that the result of thosenegotiations will put some black marks on yourcredit that won't go away for awhile. Pay it offif you can.The other thing they can do for you isdispute inaccurate items on your credit report. If they're legitimate mistakes then the bureaushave to remove them. But this can take a fairamount of documentation and hounding.Any of theabove will, over time, improve your score butexpect it to take several months or longer toimprove. You can do all of this yourself btw. It's a matter of whether you feel comfortablenegotiating or have the time and resources to doit or if you want to pay a professional. What theycan't do is remove negative items from your creditreports. If you have delinquencies, chargeoffs, collections etc. they can't remove them to improveyou're score. If they say they can they're lyingand you should run! - answered by Hiro
