Question : How to choose the best lawyer to do our living trust?
Is there a website or someplace where I can search for local lawyers who specialize in estate planning? I would like to have a living trust put together but don't know where to start! How do I know I've found a reputable and honest lawyer?

http://findlaw.com lets you indicate the generalarea of your legal issue and your location, bycity or zipcode, then produces a list ofattorneys. There’s also an option to submit yourlegal issue and location plus contact information, and any attorney interested in the case will getin touch with you. There’s no guarantee any willbe interested, ofcourse.
http://www.martindale.com/ is also a sitefor finding attorneys where you are located whohandle your type of case. It purportedly rates theattorneys, too. However, within the legalcommunity the ratings are considered more anindicator of hourly fee than of competence. Thereal expensive lawyer is not necessarily anybetter than another on something that's routine,as your living trust is. Any attorney who’s beenrated at all, even not very highly, shouldrepresent you well. Those who are unrated may lackexperience.

I agree with Maryn. But at the Marindale website, they will list attys by specialty. You don'tnecessarily need a board certified one, butsomeone who lists their specialty as wills, estates, trusts will do.Then ask them forreferences from previous clients. They'll onlygive you the ones they know will give goodreferences, but you can mine them with questionsabout how quickly they responded to phone calls, etc.

legalzoom.com in LA, California is a good website.Don't pay a huge sum unless your estate is huge. Igot one for $800 but this website would have doneit a lot less. They are not that complicated, andlegal terms are legal terms. Some attorneys chargemore just because they can get it. You can findout via computer if lawyer is reputable by callinga lawyer's office and asking for the number tocall for such information. If you find a locallawyer, check him out with your local BBB. But awebsite is as good as any. Legalzoom.com. Checkout Bill Handel at 640.com; he is a local lawyeron a local radio station (640)
