Question : How is real estate property tax determined in Oregon?
It seems like each tax jurisdiction has it's own criteria, are remote properties taxed less? I would presume property tax's are a main revenue for schools and public services so is there a relationship in between school quality and public services and property tax's? I notice property tax's on river properties seem about twice what it would be otherwise.

All Answers: Answer #1 The man comes out and does a survey using laserscopes and guides and then makes annotations onhis clipboard map. Then, when he gets back to theoffice to do the value assesment he does a routineconsultation with his magic 8-ball to determineyour taxes. They go through a similar process whentrying to figure out where to spend your money. - answered by Joe L

Answer #3 Oregon is rather unique in that although propertytaxes are based on the county assessor'sestimation of real market value there have beenseveral property tax limitation initiatives passedthat limit how much the counties can increasetaxes each year. You are right that propery taxesare the main revenue for schools and publicservices but due to what is in my opinion, grossmismanagement and top heavy administration ourschools are not worth what we're paying for themand Multnomah County (the county in which Portlandis located)alone has several billion dollars indeferred street maintenance at present. The peopleof my state have taken a firm stand against asales tax but can't stop whining about theirproperty taxes and the state of the schools. Noone is a part of the solution and everyone is apart of the problem.Riverfront property is veryhighly valued and so has higher taxes. On top[ ofthe tax base there may also, depending on thecounty, be amounts paid for levies for servicesand improvements so taxes will vary quite a bitfrom county to county with the urban propertiescarrying a lot of the load.Despit all of that, this is a lovely state with a nice climate, nohurricanes, tornados, and relatively stableproperty values due to our Urban Growth Boundarywhich helps maintain the values due to supply anddemand. - answered by mazziatplay
