Question : How is increasing tax on petrol saving the world?
Why are we putting up with all these additional taxes to counter global warming. What is Gordon doing with the extra tax on fuel, the extra tax on flying? People - it's a bl***ing con. Even the BBC is collecting money to save the earth. It saves putting up the licence fee. One could begin to get cynical!!

It isn't.But it will reduce the amount that peopledrive if you raise the tax high enough. Makinggovernment fatter and giving them more power atthe cost of your freedom and your economy.BecauseChina will be laughing all the way to the bank.

You are right it is a con. I wish everyone wouldstop smoking and then watch the government panicwhen the tax drys up from the sales. I am fed upwith paying tax on what I earn and then paying taxagain when I spend what I earn.

because they can , do you no i drive a company carand if i get it to run on cng compressed naturalgas i will pay 100 % tax on it and it lets outwater vapour not co2 as opossed to say 30/40% taxon a diesel car . and that pollutes . so thereyou have it , its about money not our granchildren. we only rent the slot we are given here sogordon i hope you burn in hell along with bush asyou really dont give a dam about my granchildrennor even your own shame on you

If you think petrol is expensive now just waituntil China really starts developing a cardependent society. The population of China has thepotential demand of three USA's. It will not save the World.It will probably beself defeating because people will only marginallyreduce the amount of petrol they use but will haveto cut down on other purchases which wouldotherwise attract VAT. This may cause businessesto lose sales and to fold. More unemployment withmore State payouts.

The fact is a fewpeople have allready come accross the know how, tomake cars run from water, as a trained engineerthis to me is quite possible, after all water isonly a mix of two highly combustable gases. yetonly vegatble fuels are known about asalternatives. Its all about money, and the worldeconomy is so dependent on oil and even gas,(because perpetual motion machines aren't so faraway)that goverments, or the powers that be,aren't really in a position to do anything,without corrupting the global bank.Imagine freeenergy? no bribes because nobody has a stake,no ongoing payments, because the thing powers itself?We could have that, and protect the enviroment,but no, because at the end of the day, most peopleare to greedy.

The tax on petrol has 2 purposes, one is todiscourage driving by anyone other than those whomust and will suffer or those who have money andcan afford to drive. The other purpose is toenrich the government so whichever party is incontrol can buy votes with housing programs,welfare, free medical care, free education, freepublic transport and any other governmentgive-away program they can think of.Remember thatif you give your government the power to doeverything for you, you also give them the powerto do anything to you.Either global warming isbeing caused by the sun or by CO2. If the pro GWscientists are right there is not enough sunlightto keep the Earth warm without the CO2. Yet if wedrastically reduce the CO2 in the air, then wewill have an Ice Age. I think orange groves inCornwall are preferable to an ice sheet coveringLondon. We had better be careful in tinkeringwith nature. Perhaps try to get rid of otherpollutants first.So the taxes are part of theusual political scam, but they will increasedemand for higher mileage autos with lesspollution. One possible choice is thesteam-electric hybrid auto I saw described. Itcould be on sale within 3 yrs easily if a largeauto firm would build them.

You are right it is not. However, those who wishto kill our planet will at least have to payheavily for doing so. Those that count who have touse their cars will be taxed just the same however careful the are about trying to make thismortal coil worth living on for the nextgeneration. The theory is if we get taxed on petrol we willdrive less. But have they ever thought aboutoffering us an alternative. At the moment inLondon public transport is so over crowded anduseless. We put up with it, because we ALWAYS put up withit. Gone are the days when the British peoplewould stand up for something.The more we stand bythe HIGHER the taxes will go. Brown has no ideahow to balance the books and needs the cash fromsomewhere. Global Warming is the best cash cow hehas ever seen.
