Question : I reported identity fraud to police 2day. They were unhelpful I said forget it. Where else can I go?
I went to a local police station to report a crime of identity fraud and the police just kept picking holes in what I was saying, being rude and obnoxious toward me. I wrote to the companies concerned but should the police not be doing more to help, instead of being rude? What do you think?

what can they do? Identity fraud is a federalcrime, and unless you suffered over $2000 indamages, you are pretty much left on your own torecover from it.Write to the Three Credit reportagencies stating that your identity has beenstolen. Pull up your credit history and report andmark any transactions/loan/cc that you do not ownor have (contesting)write to your CC companiesabout the apparent theft of your identity.and geta lawyer.

If it involves the use of your social securitynumber, try contacting your local Secret Serviceoffice. They used to handle ssn fraud before thecreation of the Homeland Security Dept.; don'tknow if they still do.You should also contact the3 credit bureaus, (Experian, Equifax andTransUnion,) to let them know what's going on.They should be able to put a note on your filethat will prevent this person from opening newaccounts in your name.Good luck.

The lady officer was really nice about itall but she said there was nothing they could doas i had lost the purse on private property (itwas left on the counter at a petrol station on amain road). She got me the number for them thoughand allowed me to use the phone in the cop shop toring BP.Then last week i was reversed into andwhen the police was called they said there was noreason for them to come out since nobody was hurt. The police station was less than 5 minutes walkaway.I think next time i won't bother with thepolice.
