You can contact Consumer Credit Counselors.Thebest way to repair your credit is to pay off yourdebts. Start by paying off your smaller debts andmaking incremental payments on your larger debts.Once your smaller debts are paid off, you can makelarger payments until they are paid off. Take thesettlements if you can...those are great offers, like paying only 50% of a debt so you can becleared.

You might start by doing as much reading as youcan on some of the sites listed in myprofile.Reading and understanding the FDCPA, FCRA,etc. can be a bit hard at first, especially theFCRA, but it does get easier.Kudo's to you forwanting to repair your credit yourself instead ofpaying someone else to do it. There are a fewgreat "free" do it yourself credit repair sites onthe web that have many active members. Manymembers on those sites have been there and donethat. (I prefer the one listed in my profile themost)Never pay a site for information you can findfor free.

Credit repair does not require the assistance of aservice. You can take a number of steps to helprepair your own credit. Although there arenumerous credit repair companies offering theirservices for a fee, savvy individuals can do theirown credit repair with a few simple steps. Theadvertisements placed by credit repair servicestouting their experience, qualified personnel andother qualifications can make the process seemdaunting but it is really quite simple. The basicsteps for do-it-yourself credit repairinclude:Request a credit report from all of thethree credit reporting agencies Carefully reviewall of the information on the credit reportsDispute any mistakes on your credit report anddocument every step of the dispute process Devisea debt reduction strategy Establish good creditstrategies now and carry them into the future Thefirst step of do-it-yourself credit repair is torequest a copy of your credit report from Equifax,Experian and Trans Union. These are the threemajor credit reporting agencies and individualsare entitled to one free credit report annuallyfrom each of these agencies. Requesting a reportfrom each of the three agencies is importantespecially if you believe there may be a mistakeon one of the reports. The information on allthree reports will be similar but mistakes mayonly appear on one of the records. Once the creditreports are acquired it is time to review all ofthe information carefully. Each item on the reportshould be examined and discrepancies should benoted. In reviewing this information, highlightanything that seems suspect and review yourdocumentation to verify the validity of the item. After compiling a list of mistakes, it is time toofficially dispute any inaccuracies on the creditreport. The dispute processes will most likelyinvolve filling out a dispute form or writing aletter detailing the alleged mistake. In bothcases documentation supporting the validity of thedispute will be required. For specific informationon how to officially file a dispute, contact thecredit reporting agency directly. Once the disputeprocess begins, document every aspect of theprocess. This is important because disputeresolution is a time sensitive process withspecific guidelines for how quickly a dispute mustbe resolved. The agency may be required to removea disputed item from a credit report if they donot respond in a timely fashion. When a negativecredit report is a result of a poor credit historyand not mistakes, only time will properly repairthe credit. The long term credit repair strategyfor financial errors in judgment includes devisinga debt reduction strategy which will demonstratediligence and establishing sound credit strategieswhich will be viewed favorably in the future.Credit reporting agencies do not hold grudges.Credit lapses are removed from credit reportsafter set periods of time and a history of goodcredit is rewarded with a solid credit score.
