Answer #7 I've been in finance for over four years now. Iunderstand that you want to know how long theinquiry will be on your record. But really itdoesn't matter. I'm sure you've heard thatinquiries are bad, that's not really the casethough. The reason that your score dips a littlewhen you have inquiries is because years agopeople only went to their local bank for anytransactions (loans, cards, etc.) so when you hada lot of inquiries it looked like you were lookingeverywhere for money and no one would give youany. Credit scores are supposed to reflect risk, and if no one would give you money then you werehigh risk. In the last few years the bureaus havedecreased the significance of inquiries becausethese days everyone checks their credit all thetime. It doesn't reflect risk anymore. If youcheck your credit 8-10 times in a month, ya, itwill dip. But for what your talking about, itshouldn't be an issue. Just check your creditwhen your serious about getting something, anddon't just apply everywhere just for fun andyou'll be golden. - answered by Tim D
Answer #8 Please ignore the response that said that yourscore drops for making your OWN inquiry. That istotally FALSE! When you run your own creditreport it does NOT show up when lenders make aquery and does NOT affect your credit score. - answered by bostonianinmo
